Drabble of Summer #47: Mosquito

The toddler sat in the middle of the lawn, sobbing hysterically as if he’d just fallen. His mother heard him from inside and quickly hurried out to see the problem. But as far as she could tell, Peter wasn’t hurt. Yet the boy kept crying.

“Peter, what’s wrong?” his mother asked him. Gulping, Peter pointed to his knee. A mosquito was perched there eagerly drinking the toddler’s blood. His mother clicked her tongue impatiently and swatted the insect away. “Honestly….”

Peter sniffed, absently scratching where the mosquito sat moments ago. Losing blood didn’t hurt as much as he thought. He decided to be braver next time.
