JustPrompt: Risk

"The decision to kiss for the first time is the most crucial in any love story. It changes the relationship of two people much more strongly than even the final surrender; because this kiss already has within it that surrender." -Emil Ludwig

His knuckles tapped the door and he waited. After a few anxious moments the door opened to reveal a beautiful blonde woman. She was surprised to see him at first, but the surprise quickly changed to a smile.

“Peter. Come in.” She stepped aside to allow him inside. Peter glanced around the modest apartment. It was a familiar space after al his visits. “You can sit down,” Niki offered. He did and watched her until she found her way to a chair as well.

The two settled in to conversation while they nursed drinks in their hands. They were both settling enough to think of jobs. Normalcy would always be out of reach for them but they could get close to it. Peter hoped Niki would choose to stay here.

“It’s getting late,” Niki mentioned as her eyes flickered to the clock. “Do you need to go?” Something about the way she said that made Peter pause. He set down his drink and reached out his hand to touch her cheek.

“No,” he answered softly. “I don’t need to go.” Carefully he pulled her forward so his lips would press up against hers. He wanted to do that all night-- maybe even before that. Niki responded immediately and Peter smiled a little against her lips. It’d been so long since he opened up to anyone and it was a risk to do so now, but he felt connected to her enough to take that risk.

They were both opening themselves to be hurt and yet they clung on to each other tighter, their lips almost bruising in their intensity. Niki’s fingers pushed through his hair and he let out a sigh of pleasure. Totally worth the risk.
