The first time he almost died had been his own fault. He let himself drop off the roof of a fifteen story building. If Nathan hadn't caught him, Peter would've died that day.

The second time he almost died was to protect a girl he barely knew. All because some guy from the future he never met before told him to "save the cheerleader". He didn't even know he would survive it when he plummeted down with Sylar. If Claire hadn't come by, he would've died.

The third time he almost died he had been thrown off a roof. The hope was that he was going to fly, but that didn't really work out. He was impaled by a taxi cab. If he hadn't remembered Claire, he would've died.

The fourth time he almost died had been far more serious. He faced Sylar and lost, getting a shard of glass in the back of his head. Everyone thought he was dead. Again, it was thanks to Claire that he lived. If she didn't think to pull out that shard of glass, he would've died.

Ironic that Claire saved his life so many times when he should have died, and now he was asking her to end the life she had saved.
