One Word: Attach

Peter stood in front of the mirror smoothing his hair nervously. It was only a few hours before the biggest moment in his life. He couldn't believe it was all really happening. Peter took a few steady breaths to try calming down, but it wasn't enough. He could still feel his body jittering in suppressed excitement. There was a knock on the door and he turned to see who it was.

"Hey." Claire popped her head in, greeting Peter with a smile. "You ready yet?"

"Almost," he answered. He was now fiddling with his tie. Claire smiled endearingly and entered the room to help him. "Thanks, Claire," Peter said. "I feel so nervous and excited."

"I'm happy for you," the girl responded. She smiled, standing close by to watch as he started knotting his tie. Peter's fingers trembled slightly but he managed to get his tie on properly. "I still can't believe you're getting married," Claire said as she pinned on the flower to Peter's tuxedo.

"Me neither." Peter got another excited twinge just thinking about it. Marriage was never something he gave much thought to in the past. Attaching himself to a single person for the rest of his life... But now it was something he desperately wanted, and he could hardly wait to make that promise.

"I'll go see if they're ready," Claire told him. "I'll be right back." She headed out of the room, leaving Peter alone.

Peter turned back to the mirror, fingers brushing strands of hair out of his face. He felt like he'd been waiting for this day for a very long time. Ever since the proposal time crawled painfully forward. It was still at a crawl now, preventing him from becoming a husband. Husband. He liked the way that sounded.

"Peter." Claire poked her head in again. "It's time." He took a deep breath and turned toward the door. Claire smiled at him, reaching up to give him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. "I'm so happy for you," she whispered.

"Thank you, Claire," he answered. "I don't think I could do this without you."

"Don't worry," she told him. "I'll be right there next to you the whole time." Peter smiled gratefully, taking her by the arm. Peter stepped outside where his wedding waited for him.
