Mad: New Year
All of this was very fresh and new for the teenager. Peter never imagined he would be lucky enough to find a girl who loved him, and certainly not a girl as wonderful as Amara. He was completely and helplessly in love with her and wanted every part of their relationship to be good.
Especially this part. It was really important that this next moment for them was perfect.
The night started out wonderfully. He found Amara in a sleek dress with her hair curled around her face. They danced together as long as their feet would allow, and when that grew too much they sat together holding hands and chatting quietly.
It was incredibly tempting for Peter to kiss her. He wanted to from the moment he picked her up for the party, and the feeling kept getting stronger as the evening wore on. But no matter how much Peter wanted to kiss Amara, he wouldn’t do it.
Not yet, anyway.
“Hey, you too.” Peter glanced up to see Heidi leaning into the room. She smiled noticing the two teenagers holding hands. “It’s almost time,” she told them.
“Come on, Amara!!” Peter tugged on his girlfriend’s hand eagerly. Amara matched his grin as the girl followed him outside. She shivered as the cold air hit her body; Peter noticed and instantly wrapped his arms around her.
Everyone around them started counting down. Peter’s heart began to race excitedly. He held Amara close, licking his lips nervously. Amara turned to him. Her eyes locked onto him and Peter found himself being drawn in. Their noses brushed together and Peter trembled slightly feeling Amara’s breath teasing his lips.
The longest minute Peter ever knew.
Ten… nine… eight… seven… six… five… four… three… two… one…
Peter closed in the last few inches separating them to press his lips against Amara’s. The cheers around them were instantly drowned out and the world faded into the background. All Peter knew was Amara: how she felt in his arms, the warmth of her lips, her touch as she leaned forward to kiss him back.
“Happy New Year,” Peter whispered as he pulled back.
“Happy New Year,” Amara answered softly. The teenagers exchanged smiles with each other. They just shared their first kiss together in the new year. A first of many to come.
