HeroesPrompt: Start over
Where do you go from here?
Peter stood in the open doorway with his bag slung over one shoulder, staring mutely into the empty apartment. He honestly didn’t know what he was expecting when he came back here. He’d been gone for a long time, after all…. Peter moved farther inside and dropped his bag on the floor. It made a loud “thump” in the silent air.
Everything was gone. He wandered to the living room first but couldn’t even find indentations in the carpet where his couch and television set used to stand. All the pictures and knick-knacks he displayed on the mantle were missing as well. His bedroom was one big empty space and when he opened his closet, Peter didn’t see even a single hook to show clothes once hung there.
There was nothing he could claim as his own anymore. Everything he owned was on his body or in that small bag. Not even this apartment felt like his anymore despite all the time he spent here. It was alien and unfamiliar.
Not home. Just a place where he would live.
