Needs-a-Hug!Peter
His whole body felt numb as he climbed up the stairs to his room. He could feel the emotion building up and needed to escape before it overflowed. Peter knew his father would just chastise him for being overly sensitive if he saw. Once he was safe inside his room with the door closed he let the tears start to flow.
The anguish shook his whole body and Peter wrapped his arms around himself to stop from shaking so hard. The tears helped make the pain easier but didn’t completely wash it away. A knock at the door startled him and Peter quickly sucked in a breath, waiting.
“Peter?” Peter released the breath he was holding. The voice on the other side was Heidi’s; Peter knew it would be safe to be sad around her.
“Yeah. The door’s open.”
The knob turned and Heidi stepped inside. The teen’s watery eyes met with his sister-in-law’s. He didn’t have to say a word to her. She gave him a tender smile and wrapped her arms around the boy tightly. Peter gratefully leaned into her embrace, letting the tears flow down his cheeks in quiet streams. Heidi didn’t try to comfort him or tell him to toughen up; she just let him cry.
That was what Peter loved so much about her.
