By now he was probably on his fifth or sixth wind. He checked his watch and the numbers blurred. Not that Peter needed to see the time to tell that it was late. Very late on a shift that was much longer than most people should take.
Moving doggedly around the locker room, Peter stumbled on something. He sat to tie his shoes. His fingers were clumsy with the laces. And the bench he sat on was very comfortable.
“Petrelli! Hey!” The voice startled him and he looked around, blinking. His partner Hesam was in the locker room giving him a look. “Dude. You look like you could use a nap.”
“No, I’m good,” Peter argued, but just as he said it he had to stifle a yawn. Hesam rolled his eyes.
“Look, rookie, we’ve got a few minutes before we gotta go. Use them.” Peter yawned again. He knew the other man was right, and in a few seconds he was stretched out on the bench dead asleep.
