"No. I don't sleep much."
He sat leaning against the window, cracking it open just enough to feel the cool breeze against his face. The city was alive with horn blasts and revving engines, and the occasional siren wail. Every time he heard one of those Peter sat up a little straighter.
The numbers on his digital clock glowed in the darkness of his apartment. They told him that it was after midnight. Yet he was as wide awake as the city outside. He knew he needed his rest but even when he tried to close his eyes a restlessness came over him that made it difficult to relax.
Next to him sat the police scanner. It crackled but so far it was nothing that caught his interest. Cops checking in on their locations and reports of traffic backing up.
It’d been such a long time since Peter was in one place this long. He was always running from one thing or another. Now he stopped but his body still thought it needed to move. He had no idea what to do with all these idle hours.
There were only so many shifts he could take at work. He thought he could count on this city to give him crimes to stop, but all was quiet now.
Peter let out a slow breath. His eyes turned back to the window and he waited for the sun to rise.
