The brothers promised to spend as much time together as possible. It was difficult to do when Peter was busy with school and Nathan was hard at work. But then, Peter was used to not having enough time with his brother. Even so, it was an arrangement the brothers constantly worked on. Once Nathan got married they managed to meet consistently every week.
This Saturday found Peter on the front steps of his house watching the streets for his brother's car. According to his watch, Nathan was now twenty minutes late. Peter could understand that his brother had a demanding job but it wasn't like Nathan to be late for anything. Peter hugged his legs and tried not to worry.
Finally a car pulled up to the curve. Peter's head jerked up eagerly just in time to see Nathan step out of the driver's side. He barely had a chance to get out before Peter was running at him and attacking him in a hug.
"Sorry I'm late," Nathan said as he hugged back. "But you'll forgive me when you find out why."
"Oh, yeah?" Peter raised a skeptical eyebrow. "You win a big case?"
"No." Nathan was absolutely beaming. Seeing that look on his brother's face only made Peter that much more curious. "I'll just show you." Nathan took out his wallet and unfolded a picture that he held out for his brother's scrutiny. Peter frowned at it but couldn't make sense of what it was supposed to be.
"I don't get it," Peter shrugged.
"That's a sonogram, Pete," Nathan told him. Somehow his grin just kept getting bigger and bigger. "You're looking at the first picture of my son."
"WHAT?!" Peter yelped, his eyes bugging out. He took another look at it, then at Nathan. "Oh, my god, Nathan!" He grabbed his brother in a tight hug.
"I'm gonna be a dad, Pete," Nathan said. "I'm gonna be a dad."
