Etc: A first step

Before he took that first step off the roof there was a moment-- a very brief moment, but one nonetheless-- where Peter felt a twinge of fear. He was determined in what he was about to do and he truly believed he was going to fly. But he couldn’t help that instinctual reaction.
This was giving him that same feeling. Peter was not about to step off a roof but in some ways it felt like it. He was determined in this commitment he was making and truly believed everything would turn out all right. Still, he felt fear for an instant.
“What’s the matter, baby?” Elle cooed worriedly. She combed her fingers through his hair and Peter closed his eyes, half expecting to feel a light shock like in the old days.
“I’m a little scared,” he admitted.
“Of me?” Elle wondered, her lips pulling into that girlish smile Peter loved so much.
“No,” Peter corrected her. “It’s just… my family doesn’t have a great track record with this sort of thing.” Elle’s mouth moved the opposite direction into a frown. “I don’t want us to end up like that,” Peter continued.
“We won’t,” Elle promised him. She kissed his cheek gently, then slowly moved over to his lips and caught him there. He responded with his arms sliding around her waist to keep her close.
Elle easily slid into Peter’s lap. His hands rubbed her waist then ran down her legs to make sure she was firmly locked around his hips. Elle smiled against his lips and nibbled on them affectionately. He let out an appreciative moan and shifted closer.
It was easy not to worry about things with such a wonderful distraction. Elle was very good about making Peter feel at lease. Like now, with her fingers kneading his shoulders while they kissed.
“How can you be so sure?” he asked her when they broke for air. She just flashed him another smile, wiggling into a more comfortable position.
“I’ve got a good feeling about you,” she answered, arresting his lips with another kiss. Peter decided to stop talking after that.
He took the first step, and found he was flying.
