Stage: Picture

spongetasticIt was their anniversary. He was beaming and thanking all of his guests as they passed by to wish him and his wife the best. Peter waited in a corner watching all of the excitement. When he saw he had an opening, he stepped in and embraced his brother.
“Congratulations.”
“Thanks, Pete.”
“Nathan. Peter.” They turned to see their mother wielding a camera. “Stand together and smile, boys.” They quickly did as they were told, even though Peter’s tie was undone. The camera’s flash briefly blinded him.

He was unpacking boxes when he ran across a picture frame. Carefully Peter pulled it out and turned it over. Two faces smiled at him. Peter’s fingers felt numb as he stared at the picture.
He could remember when that picture was taken. It felt like such a long time ago… A smile crossed his lips and he carefully placed it on the mantle.
But it made him miss Nathan, so he was forced to put it away again. He knew it would be there, though, in case he ever needed his brother.
