Drabble of Summer #35: Sandals

The wet sand squished under his bare feet as he moved along the shore. Every now and then Peter had to maneuver his foot so he wouldn’t step on a shell. Of course he didn’t see them all and eventually his foot came down on something sharp.
“Mom!” he wailed, wincing with every step. His mother rushed to him, helping dislodge the piece of glass that somehow found its way from the ocean into Peter’s foot.
“You’re going to need a tetanus shot,” she sighed. “I told you to wear sandals.” Peter could only whimper in response.
