Drabble of Summer #69: Heart in sand

He watched her quietly, trying to gather up his courage to talk to her. She was very pretty, with her dark red hair in pigtail braids. Peter never thought of a girl as pretty before. They were mostly gross and had cooties. But not this girl. From the moment he saw her building a sandcastle, he was smitten.
So while she was off talking to her mother Peter hurried over to her sandcastle. He didn’t have much time so he hurriedly drew his message and ran off before she got back.
She looked down in the sand, let out a little squeal, and quickly looked around. Peter gave her a sheepish little wave when her eyes caught his and she waved back.
Peter was too young to give her his heart for real, so he drew one in the sand.
