Origin: Part Two
Sep. 13th, 2011 06:40 pmPeter told himself that he was doing all this to protect the youth. And sure enough, he kept plenty of minors from wandering too far in the bar. But then he allowed himself be bitten and ended up having sex. Peter told himself it was because there were no strings attached, no commitment, and he needed that right now.
The truth was Peter was enchanted by this “life”, for lack of a better word. Many of these vampires were hundreds of years old yet they appeared youthful. They were stronger and faster than humans, all their senses were heightened and they were nearly invulnerable.
Every vampire he asked told him a similar story: they were once human and became vampires by being bitten and drinking the blood of the vampire who bit them. Some were turned by accident: their sires were new to their own condition and had panicked when their victims were dying. Others were chosen to be mates for their sires, and there were even a few who were willingly turned.
“Wait,” Peter said when he was told this. “You mean people purposefully come here to be turned into vampires?”
“It’s a new fad.” The male vampire he was speaking with gave a shrug and sipped at his drink. “I blame Twilight. Those goddamned sparkling vampires.” Peter wrinkled his nose at the very thought. He was more into the old school vampires, like Dracula. Though he doubted Dracula would ever go into a bar to hit on human women.
“But it happens,” Peter insisted.
“Not so much. Mostly if someone like that comes in, we just drink them and send them on their way. There are a couple vamps who would turn humans willing enough, though.” There was a slight pause as the vampire gave Peter a thoughtful glance. “Why do you ask?”
“Just curious,” Peter shrugged. So people actually chose to become vampires. Peter ran his fingers thoughtfully over his neck where scars were already forming from all the bite marks he endured. He caught his reflection in the mirror and wondered what it would be like to not see it there.
