Christmas present

spongetasticPeter didn’t mind so much that he only got a few things for his birthday that year. He spoke with Santa personally and knew that something really good was coming to him on Christmas morning. He was even extra good to make sure of it. So he thanked everyone for his presents like a good boy and went to bed early.
Christmas morning came at last. Peter really wanted to wake his parents but knew he had to keep being good. There was always a chance Santa would change his mind at the last minute. So he sat on his bed and waited until he heard his parents getting up.
“Peter? Are you awake?” his mother asked with a knock on the door. “It’s Christmas morning.”
“Merry Christmas!” he chirped happily. He followed her down the stairs. His father and Nathan were already waiting.
“Hey, there, Pete,” Nathan greeted as he rumpled his little brother’s hair. “You sleep in this morning?”
“I was waiting,” he answered.
The presents began. His parents gave each other some grown up stuff, and Nathan got some grown up stuff too. Peter got a lot of boring stuff from his parents and some cool stuff from Nathan. Santa gave him a few things too but not the one thing he really wanted.
“Didn’t… Santa bring anything else?” he asked timidly. He didn’t want to sound ungrateful but he’d been extra good so Santa would reward him.
“I don’t think so,” his father m used. “Except… hold on, I think there is something.” He got up, leaving the room. When he came back he was holding a white squirming mass in his arms.
“PUPPY!!” Peter squealed. The puppy was almost as big as him and the moment it saw him, it jumped out of Arthur’s arms to pounce on its new master. “He’s so soft!” Peter gasped as he buried his head in the puppy’s neck.
The puppy wagged its tail and licked the boy’s cheek. They were already getting along perfectly.
