The first flakes of snow were just beginning to fall. He could feel them brushing on his head and cheeks and he pulled his coat closer to his body protectively. The coat did its job in keeping his body from the cold wind but it was useless in giving him any real comfort. He felt frozen on the inside and nothing could thaw him.
"Peter?" He turned at the voice, watching as a taller man crunched through the grass. "I thought I might find you here," the man continued. Peter said nothing, turning his back on his companion. "Are you planning on staying here all day?"
"Maybe," Peter answered with a shrug of his shoulders. The thought of leaving at the moment was too much for him.
"It's getting cold," the other mentioned.
"I haven't noticed," Peter mumbled. He felt warm eyes wrap around him and a tight lump formed in his throat. He tried fighting it down but it wouldn't go away. It grew stronger until it was so painful it threatened to burst.
Suddenly it was too much and he broke down into sobs. Tears streaked down his cheeks, his body shaking. Desperately he turned and buried his face in the taller man's chest. Peter's fingers clung onto the man's coat and felt the man's arms tighten around him.
"I was wondering when you would break down," the man murmured.
"I'm s-sorry, Gabriel," Peter choked out.
"Sorry for what?"
"I..." Peter took a breath, swallowing. "I don't think I can be strong anymore."
"It's okay," Gabriel murmured soothingly, stroking the younger man's hair. The tears couldn't stop no matter how hard Peter struggled. He'd been holding them in for too long. "Let it out, darling," Gabriel encouraged.
"It hurts so much," Peter moaned, trembling.
"We knew it would," Gabriel reminded him. "Do you regret it?" Peter pulled away, wiping his cheeks dry.
"Never," he answered shakily. "Not for a single moment."
