"Just because I'm busy doesn't mean I don't love you."

Friday, 5:30 p.m.
"Gabriel!" Peter called out his lover's name the instant he walked through the front door. He set his medical bag down and stepped inside. "Gabriel?" he tried again. "I'm home." He still didn't hear anything, and he was beginning to grow a little concerned. He turned to lock the door and headed on into the house.

Peter checked the living room first but turned up no results. Next he tried the bedroom but that turned out to be empty as well. Now Peter was really starting to get worried. His heart pounded anxiously as he poked his head into Gabriel's office.

"Thank god," he breathed out. His lover was there. Hearing Peter's voice, the older man turned and greeted him with a smile.

"Peter, hi. I didn't hear you come in."

"I noticed," Peter sighed out. He moved to stand by Gabriel's chair, leaning down to give his lover a kiss on the cheek. "Hi, there." Gabriel's smile widened at the kiss. Peter kissed his way to his lover's ear. "What do you say we go out for dinner tonight?" he suggested in a murmur.

"Not tonight, Peter. I have to study."

"You can study later," Peter said hopefully.

"I have a test," Gabriel argued, shaking his head.

"Oh." Peter's heart sank. He gave Gabriel a hug and kissed him chastely. "Okay. You study. I'll make dinner." He slipped away into the kitchen. He tried not to let it bother him. Gabriel's school-work was important, after all.

Sunday, 8:00 a.m.
"Peter." Gabriel put his hand on the empath's shoulder and shook him gently. Peter made a groaning sound into his pillow, burying his face more stubbornly into it. "Peter," Gabriel sighed out impatiently. "If you don't get up now you'll be late for church." Peter didn't move.

Gabriel couldn't understand how Peter could be awake and ready for his day by seven o'clock every other day of the week, but when Sunday rolled around the empath was nearly impossible to stir from his sleep. And Peter wasn't exactly a heavy sleeper either, as Gabriel well knew.

Eventually Gabriel gave up the effort and went to church on his own. It hurt not to have Peter along with him but he was resigned to accept it.

Tuesday, 11:45 a.m.
Peter's cell phone started ringing. Luckily he wasn't treating any patients at the moment or he wouldn't have heard it. When he noticed what number it was he hurried to a quiet place to answer.

"Hi, Gabriel. I've been thinking about you all day."

"You have?" Gabriel asked, and Peter smiled at the pleased tone to the other man's voice. "I've been thinking about you too. I wondered if you wanted to have lunch with me today."

"Yes!!" Peter agreed eagerly. "I would love to! We can get a sandwich somewhere. I can take my lunch break right now if you want."

"Sounds perfect," Gabriel responded. "I'll see you in about ten minutes."

"Great. And Gabriel..." Peter paused, biting his lip anxiously. "I love you. I love you so much."

"I love you too, Peter," Gabriel answered.

Wednesday, 10:20 p.m.
The television's volume was turned down low, the evening news murmuring out. Gabriel and Peter sat on the couch together. Peter had his head nestled on Gabriel's chest with the taller man's arm draped over his shoulders. It wasn't certain which one of them started dozing off first but now both were sound asleep.
