Did you have a highschool sweetheart? If so, what is your best memory of the time you spent together? Did it last, or did you grow apart? If you experienced the latter, do you think of them today?
No matter how many times he stood in front of that door about to knock, Peter still got an excited jump in his stomach. This time the excitement started when he made it to the front step, jittering through his whole body the closer he drew. Finally when Peter reached the door he was about ready to burst. The eager teen knocked, taking a deep breath.
The door opened, and the most beautiful girl in the entire world stood on the other side. Her face was framed by light brown curls while the rest flowed gently over her shoulders. She wore a blue dress that complemented her eyes perfectly. She wore a pearl necklace around her throat and silver earrings glittered in her ears.
"Wow," Peter breathed out.
"You always say that," Amara smiled. She stepped forward into his waiting arms and met with his lips. Peter pulled away after a while, holding out her white corsage. "Oh!" The girl's eyes lit up and she held out her wrist so Peter could slide it on. "Peter, it's beautiful."
"So are you," he answered, kissing her fingers lovingly.
It was their junior prom and Peter couldn't be happier sharing that night with Amara. He planned everything out so it could be perfect. He rented the limo that drove them, bought the corsage, and wore his best tuxedo.
Peter held Amara in his arms, swaying the girl gently in time with the music. The DJ somehow chose the perfect song to play for them. Their eyes met and Peter's heart skipped a beat. Right now, in this moment, everything felt perfect.
Ten years later Peter was making dinner with the radio tuned in to his favorite station. A song started playing and Peter turned as the melody caught his attention. He closed his eyes letting the music flow over him. It brought back images of a beautiful girl in a blue dress that always took his breath away.
Always, and still did.
