Sometimes he felt so tired it was hard to breathe. Today was a hard day for them. There was a huge accident with patient after patient being brought into the ER. The ambulance's wail screamed in his head. Heart monitors beeped erratically as another life threatened to slip away. Peter couldn't let that happen; he couldn't lose anyone.
Peter placed his hand on the man's chest. Power flowed through his arm, sinking its way into the dying man's body. As he concentrated Peter felt the energy drain out of him. But he didn't stop until his patient was healed.
At the hospital he leaned heavily against the wall, body trembling with fatigue. He could feel cold sweat running down his face and neck. Peter swallowed and pushed his hair out of his face. He took a breath and went back to work.
He couldn't rest yet. Not when there were still so many people who needed his help. If he took a break a life might be lost. Peter wasn't going to let that happen.
He was fine. But every time he used his ability he felt weaker, more tired, and utterly drained. His limbs felt heavy but he felt he had to keep going anyway.
Peter closed his eyes, covering his face with a hand. There were so many; too many.
