It wasn't as if Peter loved Noah any less. Far from it: he loved his son very deeply. It was just the simple fact that Peter wasn't even aware that the boy existed until he was already born. It certainly wasn't what Peter imagined having a child would be like. He wanted a child, and he wanted to be there for the whole process. Yes, even for the unpredictable mood swings.
"Elle..." He spoke his wife's name quietly to get her attention. They were laying in bed just enjoying each other's company, Elle's back pressed to Peter's chest. She shifted when he called her name and met her husband's gaze.
"Hmm? What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," he assured her. "I just..." He wetted his lips, unsure of how to vocalize his thoughts. "Are you taking any sort of birth control?"
"What?" She quirked an eyebrow at him. That came out a bit more blunt than he intended.
"Birth control," Peter repeated. He shouldn't feel so odd talking about this; he was a registered nurse, after all. "Are you taking any?"
"Well..." Elle was giving her husband a very strange look now. "Yes," she admitted after a moment.
"I was wondering... if maybe you wanted to stop for a while," Peter said slowly. He rested his hand on the woman's stomach meaningfully. Elle's eyes went very wide as her fingers covered her husband's hand.
"You want another baby?" she asked him in a hushed voice.
"Yes," he confirmed, squeezing her hand tightly. Elle's eyes shimmered happily at him and she closed in to press her lips to his. "In fact," Peter added, tugging the woman's body close to his. "I think we should start working on that right now."
"Definitely," Elle agreed huskily. Peter smiled at her, kissing her stomach already dreaming of when he would feel a tiny kick under his lips.
