Flailing!Peter

spongetasticElle wasn’t walking so much as taking things at a slow plod these days. When Peter watched her he couldn’t help but wonder if Noah gave her the same amount of trouble… And then he would feel guilty about not being there for her. At least he was here now. Currently coming into their room to rub her feet.
“Peter,” she hissed out the moment he stepped inside. She was pretty much where Peter left her: body resting on the bed, back propped up against pillows. She was gritting her teeth and she kept clenching her fists.
“Elle, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“The baby. It’s coming.” They were only four words but they made Peter’s heart leap and his stomach drop.
“…What?” He gaped at her.
“The baby’s coming, Peter!!” Elle all but screamed at him. Sparks shot out from her fingers but didn’t get far. Seeing it made Peter panic even more than he was at the thought of his child coming into the world.
He had no idea what to do first. His instinct was to comfort Elle, but there were so many other things too. Finally he grabbed the bags they packed for the trip to the hospital. Peter called a taxi while he helped Elle to her feet.
“Noah!” Elle gasped out. “Where’s Noah?” If Peter had a free hand he would’ve smacked himself in the forehead. The problem was he didn’t have a free hand. He hand no idea what to do with Noah.
Peter ushered Elle to the cab first, instructing the driver to wait while Peter ran back for his son. The family crammed into the backseat with Peter trying to help Elle with her breathing while Noah wavered between being afraid and being inquisitive.
As for Peter, he didn’t know what to feel yet. He was too busy trying not to fall to pieces. It would be another twenty or thirty hours before he could relax enough to think straight, and then all he would feel was immense joy as his daughter was put in his arms.
